FAQ
How is credit card interest calculated?
Most US cards charge interest daily on the average daily balance at APR ÷ 365. This calculator uses the monthly equivalent (APR ÷ 12), which is within a few dollars for a steady balance.
Why does paying only the minimum take so long?
Minimum payments are often just 1–3% of the balance plus interest, so most of each payment goes to interest. Paying a fixed amount above the minimum shortens the payoff dramatically.
Should I use a balance transfer?
A 0% balance-transfer card can save a lot if you can clear the balance before the promo ends; include the typical 3–5% transfer fee when comparing.
